GOV DICKSON EXPRESSES SATISFACTION WITH THE TRANSPARENT, FREE, FAIR AND PEACEFUL CONDUCT OF PDP STATE ASSEMBLY PRIMARIES, AS MAJORITY LEADER EMERGES VICTORIOUS IN GOVERNOR’S CONSTITUENCY
The majority leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpe has emerged as the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP flag bearer for Sagbama constituency, one in next year’s State House of Assembly elections.
Declaring the results at Ebedebiri and Angiama ward 5 in Sagbama Local Government Area, the Chairman of the PDP electoral panel for Bayelsa, Hon. Hamisu Abubakar, explained that, Mr. Romeo Ebizimor, the only other candidate, who vied for the ticket polled just a single vote, while one vote was declared invalid.
Hon. Abubakar, who described the process as transparent, free and fair, noted that, Hon. Akpe got the majority of the votes cast, having polled a total of 23 votes and therefore emerges the winner.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Bayelsa State Governor, Hon.Seriake Dickson, who also participated as a super delegate, congratulated Hon. Akpe for his victory, while also commending his opponent, Mr. Ebizimor for his show of sportsmanship and called on others to emulate his mature disposition.
According to him, the transparent manner the primaries were conducted and the emergence of Hon. Akpe as the representative of Sagbama constituency, one for another term in the State legislature, was an eloquent testimony that no candidate was imposed on the people.
Commending delegates and party faithful for their peaceful disposition, Governor Dickson stated that, preliminary reports available to him indicates that, the primaries across the state were free, fair and credible and urged party stalwarts to work in harmony to achieve success for the party at all levels.
Responding, the two contestants, Hon. Akpe and Mr. Ebizimorexpressed appreciation to the people for their support and promised to work together for the progress of the party and the constituency.
