The Nembe Legislative Concil has commended the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson and Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd) for the enthronement of peace in Nembe Kingdom.
The Nembe Legislative Council gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Energy, Barr. Francis Ikio in Yenagoa.
The Legislators, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Asuku Mayomi noted that they are pleased with the existing peace in Nembe Kingdom and pledged to complement this by passing bills that would further promote peace and development in the area.
They also promised to carry out vigorous enlightenment programmes that would enlighten the youths of the area on the need to sustain peace and also to key into state government’s skills acquisition programmes.
The Legislators however, appealed to the state government to provide the area with ele ctricity, roads, Traditional Rulers Secretariat and employment opportunities for the teeming youths.
In his response, the Commissioner of Energy, Barr. Francis Ikio assured the people of Nembe of the state government’s continued commitment towards the sustenance of peace and development in the state.
The Commissioner noted that government places a very high premium on the maintenance of peace and order because no meaningful development can take place in an environment of devoid of peace.
He urged the Councillors and youths of the area to encourage peace and unity by playing the role of agents of peace and development.
On the recent security challenges along Nembe water ways, Barr. Ikio noted that state government is seriously working to contain the menace of piracy.
Commenting on the Ogbia-Nembe road under construction, he said because of its importance, the state government has stepped in to complement the efforts of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to ensure early completion of the project.
On the request for job creation, the Commissioner said the state government has done much in that area and urged the youths of Nembe to embrace government’s skills acquisition programmes in order to acquire skills.
