The Hon. Minister for Niger Delta Affairs arrived Otueke Skill acquisition centre Ogbia Bayelsa State with some Nollywood STARs #ZACK ORJI, PAUL OBAZELI, ASU EKIYE and others in its entourage at 10:16 hrs in assessment of on-going work done in the centre, on arrival he quickly queried the entrance road from the gate that he was expecting an advance stage of work done; he then inspected the conference centre, administrative block, ICT centre, clinic building, senior and junior staff buildings, hostel / porter lounges, cafeteria block, swimming pool, rector’s building, laundry building and workshop buildings.
In the course of inspection, he expressed his displeasure on few projects and entered a brief meeting with contractors then later answered questions from the press. On overall rating, he was satisfied with on-going work and emphasized that the july date for completion is still feasible and further informed the press that the skill acquisition centre will train youths in oil and gas, maritime studies, ICT and a company is on the pipeline to train youths in assembling Ipad and telephones which at the end will employ 200 youths.
Furthermore, he stressed that seven other centres construction is in high pace which will accommodate 500 youths and of it 200 will be for the assembling of the said Ipad and telephones.
He said he was impressed in his assessment tour that the centres will be run by consultants, he made it clear that funding is not a problem and the other centres to be put to use by July is Akwa-ibom, Delta state and Cross rivers which is for tourism and entertainment then Bayelsa state.

As part of his activities in ensuring the actualization of the Transformation Agenda for Niger Deltans and also to “Carry The People Along” as agreed in recent National Council, “ACTION PLAN” The Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe has embarked on a Region Wide ROAD SHOW and Inspection of projects in the Region to ensure Timely completion for the benefits of the People.
The Minister was flanked by Prominent Indigenous Artiste in the Entertainment Industry, including Veteran NollyWood Actor Zack Orji, Paul Obazeli and the renowned Niger Delta Singing Sensation Asu Ekiye amongst others.
The Project Inspection commenced with a visit to the Bayelsa State Skill Acquisition Center been constructed by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, located at Otuoke Community. The Center when completed is expected to Train Youths on Oil and Gas, Maritime Technology and ICT.
The Minister was conducted round the Site by Engr. J. Jemide (Director Housing MNDA) where he inspected the Male and Female Hostel Facilities, Administrative Blocks, Workshop Rooms, Store House, Cafeteria, Oil Field/Rig for exploration practices as well as Recreational Facilities in the Center.
Addressing the Minister and his entourage, the Contractors on Site pledged their commitment in the completion of the Project in few weeks even as they lauded the cordial relationship existing between them and the Ministry which has further aided their attitude towards work making the Center over 80% completed.
While Fielding Questions from the Press, the Minister stated that there are Nine (9) Skill Acquisition Centers across the Nine (9) States of the Region though there are lingering issues with that of Edo State which has stalled the progress of work. He further stated that the Centers for Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom are to Train Youths on Oil and Gas, Maritime and ICT and will be ready for Commissioning by July 2013, while Abia and Imo will be for Commerce and Construction and Cross-River State will specifically be for Entertainment and Tourism which heralded the need for Indigenous Artiste from the Region to embark on the Tour as they remain Major Stakeholders in the Entertainment Industry.
The Minister further declared that the Otuoke Center will admit 700 Students on its first year, with 500 Training for Oil & Gas and Maritime Technology while 200 for ICT which will involve the Assemblage of Mobile Phones, Ipads and other Telecommunication gadgets as the Ministry is partnering with Stakeholders in the Telecommunication Industry in Nigeria and Abroad to fully impart on the Trainees and also to provide an automatic employment for them all upon graduation.
On a Final note, ORUBEBE stated that the Centers will be Managed by Private Consultants as they will be given Free Hands to run the activities of the Center, with Supervision from the Ministry. He also reiterated his commitment to ensure the completion and commissioning of the Center in July.
