Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Seriake Dickson has expressed his administration’s willingness to partner with the Media in its efforts at projecting the positive image of the state and the country to the outside world particularly at this challenging period.
Governor Dickson made this remark while speaking in a live interview programme on Ray Power 102.5, Elebele, Yenagoa.
Describing DAAR Communication, owners of Ray Power radio and African Independent Television, AIT, as a dependable partner, he saluted the courage of the media organization for pioneering private broadcasting in the country and in Africa as a whole.
Governor Dickson also lauded the media outfit for collaborating with the state government in not only addressing negative issues but promoting the right values both in the state and the country in general.
The Governor, who explained that he was at the Yenagoa office of DAAR Communications to assess the level of destruction caused by last year’s flood, also used the occasion to respond to questions on government’s plan for the impending flood and other issues.
Governor Dickson said already, his administration has constituted a Technical and Post Flood Management committees to assess government’s preparedness as well as take proactive measures that could ameliorate the possible effects of the disaster.
He observed that though, there is nothing anyone can do about the flood considering the fact that the menace is an annual ritual coupled with the fact that Bayelsa is a coastal state that is prone to flooding.
The State Chief Executive also remarked that he is hoping and praying that this year’s predicted flood would not get to the magnitude experienced in 2012 since Bayelsa was the most impacted state in the country.
Governor Dickson, who praised the staff and management of DAAR Communication for their doggedness in the performance of their responsibilities, was conducted round the facility of DAAR Communications, Yenagoa by its Chairman, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.
Responding, a member of the board of AIT, Prince Shedrack Akolokwu expressed appreciation to Governor Dickson for identifying with the Media as a catalyst for the enthronement of positive change in society.
