State lawmakers inquiring into the affairs of Local Government Councils have frowned at the over bloated staff and high wage bill of the Yenagoa City Local Government which exceeds its monthly allocation.
The observation was made yesterday at the State House of Assembly while the councils chairman, Mr. Mike Ogbolosingha was responding to questions.
The legislators also queried the council’s failure to embark on naming of streets and numbering of houses in the state capital.
Ogbia Local Government Chairman, Mr. Sammy Boy was reprimanded for not putting in place a Tender Board and a Procurement Officer in the council, but the chairman explained that given the low financial capacity, the council could not accommodate such luxuries.
Commenting,  the Speaker, Mr. Konbowei Benson assured that the exercise is not aimed at witch-hunting anybody but to ensure transparency, efficiency and build confidence in the local government system in the state in line with section seven of the nineteen ninety-nine constitution.
Chairman of Ekeremor, Southern Ijaw and Sagbama Local Government Areas also appear before the House for the ongoing investigation today.
