BAYELSA GOVT PARTNERS WITH NIGERIAN ARMY ON DEVELOPMENT:
The Bayelsa State Government in partnership with the Nigeria Army is to undertake a survey of Agge in Ekeremor Local Government area of the state.
The move is in pursuance of the state government’s plan to develop a deep sea port in Agge and subsequently attract huge investments to the area. Governor Seriake Dickson made the assertion in an interactive session with a team of senior military officers led by Major General Funsho Owonibi in Government House, Yenagoa.
The Governor pointed out that government has an ambitious plan of infrastructural development and intends to attract massive Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which will in turn, accelerate socio-economic activities and over-all development of the state.
Government alone, he pointed out, cannot shoulder this responsibility, which he explained was the reason why his administration was making efforts to reach out to the investing public for collaboration.
While urging the Nigeria Army not to delay its movement to Agge, Governor Dickson stressed the need to make available to government the situation report on Agge as soon as possible.
According to him, “a new dawn beckons on both public and private investors as government is assuring them of an investment friendly climate”. Governor Dickson also urged the Nigeria Army to assist in boosting the existing security measures in the area whilst in Agge, considering the strategic importance of the coastal town, which has direct access to the Atlantic Ocean.
Speaking, Major General Funsho Owonibi said sequel to the discussions between the state government and the Chief of Army Staff, he was in the state to further strengthen the collaboration between the two parties on the infrastructural development of the state.
Major General Owonibi also explained that he was in Bayelsa to assess the area to be surveyed and fashion out ways the Nigeria Army could assist the state pursue rapid development.
According to him, most of the professionals in the Nigeria Army will be lending their expertise in carrying out the assignment. Major General Owonibi explained that with the involvement of the Nigeria Army, the quality of the job would be guaranteed, the task would be completed on schedule just as the cost of the work would be highly reduced.
