  1. GOVERNMENT/CIVIL SOCIETY INTERACTIVE SESSION TODAY
    THEME: BUILDING SYNERGIES BETWEEN GOVERNMENT & THE CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS
    Civil Society is an indispensable component of participatory democracy. Broadly, three sets of functions are performed to varying degrees by different types of civil society organizations. These may include:
    • Articulating citizens’ interests and demands;
    • Defending citizens’ rights; and
    • Providing goods and services directly, without recourse to state agencies.

    Articulating citizens’ interests and demands is an important function performed by Civil Society Organizations, CSOs. The importance of CSO’s can better be appreciated when state policies and the programs of government agencies do not take account sufficiently of needs of the poor or of some other vulnerable sections. CSOs bridge the gap by way of representing the interest of the people. CSO’s also engage in defending the rights of the down-trodden especially groups that suffer extreme social exclusion.

  2. This is a welcome development if the objective is achieved.and not political in nature. I see this as democratic,Government should not while Power & Authority are given to them on one hand,Responsibity & Accountability they owe the people on the other hand. Public office holders should note that the office they occupy is not theirs but intrust they people give them to hold.

  3. The other day, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
