Gov Dickson Directs State Auditor-General to Publish Audited Accounts of State on Quarterly Basis

Bayelsa state Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson says , the total income from the federal allocation account to the state in the month of June was thirteen point four five billion naira.

Governor Dickson announced this at the fifth edition of the Bayelsa state transparency initiative press briefing in Yenagoa. Giving a breakdown of the state’s finances, the Governor explained that a total of two point three six billion naira was deducted at source for servicing the state bond and other loan obligations inherited from the previous administration leaving a balance of ten point six nine billion naira.

According to him, the balance in addition to the internally generated revenue of three hundred and twenty four million naira came up to over eleven billion naira.

On the state expenditure, Governor Dickson said two hundred million naira was paid as federal inland revenue while Government made another loan repayment of nine hundred and twenty three million naira.

He also announced that the wage bill for civil servants in the state was reduced to three point nine eight billion naira as against over five billion naira when he assumed office while salaries for political appointees amounted to one hundred and thirty one million naira as against nearly five billion naira the previous administration was expending monthly for the same purpose.

On overhead and liabilities, Hon. Dickson said Government spent nine hundred and four million naira noting that having serviced all the loans the state was left with four point seven billion naira.

Commenting on savings, the state chief Executive explained that after making payments of nine point three billion naira for capital projects, the state had a balance of seventeen point seven eight billion naira from which two hundred and fifty million naira has been set to service the Bayelsa State Strategic Reserve Account.

To further demonstrate his administration’s commitment to probity and accountability which Governor Dickson said was the underlying principles of
democracy, he directed the state Auditor General to produce a quarterly audited accounts of the state and make it available to the public.
