BAYELSA NEW MEDIA AND US

Good governance is said to be the ability of a political system to provide the needed infrastructure capable of driving a particular economy, for instance, as we can see in the progressive implementation of the Restoration Agenda by the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson since he was elected into office on February 14, 2012.

Its on record that Gov. Dickson’s government has awarded contracts and paid  for the construction of essential road projects to provide a favaourable environment for socio-economic growth.  He government is also attracting willing business concerns from South Africa and other parts of the world to come and invest in the glory of all lands.  No doubt, the benefits associated with the construction of Ring Roads in Yenagoa, completion of the three senatorial roads, etc cannot be over-emphasized. And for this reason Bayelsans have confidence and trust in his Restoration Agenda.

Governor Dickson and his deputy, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd) are captains in their respective industries.  Both men are aware that Governments all over the world today, use the New Media Technology to advance its course, as exemplified by his inauguration of the Bayelsa New Media Team, ably represented by the Deputy Governor at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yenagoa on Saturday, July 7, 2012, of which yours truly was an active participant.  As the Guest Lecturer at the occasion, Mr. Ibituru Iwowari Pepple said “the decision of the Bayelsa State Government to inaugurate the Bayelsa New Media Team is a welcome development”, because no other media can provide a robust platform, except the “New Media Technology” which will effectively promote good governance and active participation for all and sundry irrespective of social status. For members of this group online and on ground, the New Media Technology is a tool for advancement of our political campaigns and social mobilization to the next level.

Therefore, on behalf of HSD-Goodluck Jonathan 2015, an affiliate of Bayelsa People Organization, I wish to commend His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State for inaugurating the Bayelsa New Media Team. We appreciate his recognition of this segment of society and call on his administration to ensure that the necessary multi-media devices and electronic gadgets, such as iPads, Black Berry smart phones and laptop computers are donated to all members of the Bayelsa New Media Team to enhance their performance towards conformity with new standards in social media practice in the State.  The Executive Governor should also as a matter of policy, provide honorariums to recognized social media practitioners and  groups that support and promote the socio-political ideals of the Transformation programmes of President Goodluck Jonathan and the progressive activities of the Restoration Team in Bayelsa State.

My commendations also go to the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Social Media and Research, Comrade John Idumange for his successful organization of the Bayelsa New Media Team programme. Although, a lot of inductees expected did not attend due to one reason or the other, his effort to carry every group along in the social media is commendable.  We hope that Comrade Idumange would be true to his words to HSD and make the Bayelsa New Media Team what it should be, with all recognized social media practitioners having a sense of belonging in this government.
